How not to waste questions in Confessd

The question limit

Every Confessd case has a limit of questions per game: 12. Senior Detective subscribers get 14 per case when playing solo. The counter sits at the top of the interrogation, as 3/12 (or 3/14), and turns red when only 2 are left.

The limit applies to the whole game, not to each suspect. Asking one or another draws from the same pool. The math is simple: the case limit (12), or 14 for a subscriber in solo mode, plus 2 if you buy the extra questions. In a game with friends the case limit applies to everyone, subscriber or not, and there are no extra questions.

What counts and what doesn't

Counts: every ready-made question and every question you type, even when the suspect dodges it. Some aggressive questions count as two; they usually make the suspect angry, and you'll notice the extra drop on the counter.

Doesn't count: forensics. Ordering a test in the Lab doesn't touch the counter, it only costs coins. Rereading lines in Statements, checking your Clues, opening "Review the case" or saving questions in the Notebook doesn't cost anything either.

When the questions run out

Once you hit the limit, nobody answers anymore. The suspect cards are dimmed and the message "You are out of questions. Time to accuse." appears with the Accuse button. In a solo game, right below it there's a second button: "Get +2 questions · 10 coins". Tap it, confirm "Unlock 2 more questions for 10 coins?" and the counter goes from 12/12 to 12/14 (a subscriber goes from 14 to 16). The question list comes back and the button disappears.

The purchase works once per game: when the 2 extras run out, all that's left is to accuse with what you have in your Clues. If you don't have enough coins, the game takes you to the Shop. If you reach the end without a single clue, the Accuse button stays disabled, so securing at least one clue early is still part of the plan. Losing and restarting the case is a new game, with the counter reset and the purchase available again.

How to make every question count

Start by hearing out all three suspects before digging into just one. The first answers show who has something to hide and which new questions appear.

After every new clue, go back to everyone's list of ready-made questions: clues unlock questions that were locked before, sometimes for another suspect. The list is shuffled after every answer, so read it carefully.

Use typed questions with a purpose. A question that matches nothing only makes the suspect dodge it and still uses one up. Insulting or accusing without evidence makes the suspect angry and reveals nothing.

Use forensics when you're stuck. They reveal clues without using up questions, and the forensics guide explains when they're worth the coins.

Finally, don't chase the confession down to the last question if you already have strong evidence. Accusing with questions to spare is better than running out. The 2 extra questions are breathing room, not a plan: count on the case limit.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions do I get per case?

12 per game, adding up the questions asked to all the suspects. Senior Detective subscribers get 14 in solo mode. When they run out, in a solo game, you can buy 2 more for 10 coins, once per game.

Do forensics use up questions?

No. Forensics cost coins and don't touch the question counter.

What happens if I get the accusation wrong after using all my questions?

The game ends as a loss (-10 points) and you start the same case over with the counter reset.
