When to order a forensic test in Confessd

What a forensic test is in the game

On the suspects screen, the Forensics button opens the Lab. Each case has 1 to 4 tests of its own, such as DNA test, Fingerprints, Ballistics, Search warrant, Toxicology, Security cameras, Phone records, Digital forensics, Records and plates, Translation or cipher, Medical examiner's report or Handwriting analysis, plus Scene photos, which every case has.

You tap the test, confirm "Order this analysis for N coins?" and run the test yourself in a short minigame. When you finish, the report appears and whatever it revealed goes into your Clues.

Cost and rules

Each forensic test costs 5 to 50 coins, depending on the case. Scene photos cost 10 coins and are free for Senior Detective subscribers: the card shows Free and opens without the confirmation. Every new account starts with 300 coins.

The purchase lasts for the game. Within it you never pay twice: the test shows as "View report" or, if you left in the middle of the minigame, as "Analysis to do". But if you lose the case and play again, you pay again.

Forensics don't use up questions. The counter doesn't move.

Some tests start locked, with "Find more clues to unlock.": they depend on clues you don't have yet.

What it reveals and what it never does

A forensic test shortens a path, it never hands you the final evidence. The clue it reveals unlocks or backs up a confrontation question, or helps take an innocent person off the list. It never points to the culprit on its own.

Every new clue revealed by forensics is worth +5 points, just like with questions; the report shows the points line. Scene photos are different: they show the scene in pictures, have no report or minigame and give no points. They're there so you can look over the place at your own pace.

Once in a while a test comes back inconclusive. That's part of it: not every analysis confirms something.

When it pays off

When you're stuck: the ready-made questions bring nothing new and the counter is getting tight. A forensic test can unlock the question you were missing without using up questions.

When you've just unlocked a test: a test that appears after a clue is usually the continuation of that lead.

When you want to confirm a suspicion about an innocent person before accusing.

When it doesn't pay off: at the start of the game, before hearing the suspects, you don't even know what you're looking for. Listen first, order later. The forensics guide has a page for each test, with the minigame to try out.

Frequently asked questions

Do forensics use up questions?

No. They cost coins and don't touch the question counter.

If I lose the case, do I have to pay for the forensic test again?

Yes. The purchase lasts for the game. Within it you never pay twice; in a new game of the same case, you pay again.

Does a forensic test show who the culprit is?

Never. It reveals a clue that shortens the path or rules someone out, but the accusation is still up to you.
