Liverpool, January 1931, Tuesday, 9 pm. Edith Penrose was found dead in the front room of her own house, in the Anfield district.
The evening before, someone phoned the chess club and left a message for her husband, Arthur: a Mr. Quilliam wanted to see him on Tuesday, at 7:30 pm, to close an insurance deal.
Arthur spent the evening looking for the address in the message. When he got home, Edith was already dead.
Three men knew the couple and the club. One of them made that call.
