Cirque Boréal, big top pitched at the Vieux-Port of Montréal, 9:40 pm. During the final act, trapeze artist Élise Côté fell nine meters in front of eight hundred people.
The net broke part of the fall. Élise is in the hospital with both legs broken and won't fly again any time soon. The trapeze rope didn't snap on its own: it was cut.
At 9:00 pm, before the intermission, the rope was checked and it was intact. Between 9:00 pm and 9:15 pm, only three members of the troupe stayed behind the big top. One of them climbed where they shouldn't have.
The management trailer behind the big top, old circus posters, a heater crackling in the October cold.
