Your first case in Confessd, step by step

Before the case: account and avatar

The first time you open Confessd, the start screen shows two buttons. New game starts from scratch: you choose an avatar and the game takes you to the first case. I have an account signs you in with Google, Apple or email and brings back your avatar and your progress.

Along the way, tutorial balloons point to the buttons on each screen. Each one has Got it and Skip tutorial. If you want to see them again later, use "Show the tutorial again" in Settings.

Read the case

Every case starts with an account of the crime. Read it carefully: the culprit is one of the suspects. If the case has narration, tap Listen to have the narrator read it; the number next to it changes the speed.

When you're done, tap Play solo. Next to it is Play with friends, to solve the case with other people.

Pick a suspect and ask

The suspects screen shows three cards. Tap one to question them; you can go back and switch whenever you want. In the interrogation, you can also swipe sideways to move to the next suspect.

Pick a ready-made question under "Questions about the case" or type your own in the "Or ask in your own words…" field. The number of questions per case is limited (12, or 14 for a subscriber playing solo) and the counter at the top shows how many you've asked.

A good opening is to hear all three before digging into one. Watch each one's face with every answer.

Gather clues

Answers that give something away become clues: an orange dot flies to the Clues button and the score at the top adds +5. In Statements you can reread everything each suspect said, and in the Notebook you write down questions for any case.

New clues unlock new questions, sometimes for another suspect. After each one, go through the lists again.

If you get stuck, open Forensics. You pay coins, run the test in a minigame and get the report. Forensics don't use up questions.

Accuse or get the confession

With at least one clue, the Accuse button lights up. Choose the suspect and answer "What is your evidence?" with a clue that points to them. Get it right and they're arrested, worth +50 points. Get it wrong and you lose 10 points and the game ends, but you can start the same case over right away.

If the right question breaks the culprit, they confess on the spot: the game ends in victory and +100 points, with no need to accuse.

After the win come the arrest, the video of your boss, the Score and the leaderboard. On a free account, the next case unlocks in 30 minutes, or right away for 20 coins. Meanwhile, the post-case room has minigames about the case you just solved.

I got the accusation wrong in the first case. Now what?

You lose 10 points and go back to the opening of the same case, with the counter reset, to try again.
