Kuala Lumpur airport, low-cost terminal, Monday, 9:40 am. At 9:00, in the check-in hall, a young woman covered the eyes of a man in a blue coat from behind and rubbed something on his face.

Lorenz Vesely, 45, the exiled firstborn of a powerful family back home, walked alone to the infirmary, complaining that his vision was going dark. He died in the ambulance at 9:25. He was traveling on a passport in the name of “Erik Novak”.

A storm delayed every flight, and the police sealed the terminal before anyone could board.
