Marlow Springs, eastern Alabama, Wednesday, February 2, 2011, 8 pm. At Oak Corner, where the Wolves fans throw toilet paper after every win, two 130-year-old oak trees stand with straw-colored leaves.
On November 27, the Wolves beat the State Hawks 24 to 23 in the big rivalry game. On January 27, a listener called a sports radio show and said on the air that he had killed the trees.
The university had the soil around the roots analyzed. The result came out yesterday, and the whole town wants a name before the oaks die for good.
Three people have been called to the campus grounds office. One of them knows what was put under those roots.
