A lens factory in a Hertfordshire village, England, 1971. Walter Pryce, 60, head of the stockroom, has died after weeks of leg pain and falling hair.
Since May, dozens of workers have been vomiting and trembling with what the village calls "the factory flu". Cyril Dunn, Walter's colleague, is in hospital and has lost almost all his hair.
The 10 o'clock and 3 o'clock tea comes from a trolley in the corridor, and every worker has their own mug with their name painted on it. Three people handle those mugs every day.
One of them knows there is no flu at all.
