Hotel Maharlika, Manila, 9:40 pm. The final of the Binibining Perlas pageant. The Perla ng Silangan crown, made of gold and South Sea pearls, has vanished from the backstage display case.
At 9:10 pm it was there. At 9:25 pm the security guard found the case closed and empty, without a single scratch on the lock. The crowning is set for 10:30 pm, and the ballroom doors have been locked.
Three people moved around backstage during that window. One of them is lying about where they were.
