Prinsengracht canal, Amsterdam, 11:05 pm. Willem Brandt, a 64-year-old painter, was found dead in the studio of his houseboat by a former student.
He hit his head on the corner of the printing press, between 10:15 pm and 10:35 pm. On the floor, a spilled pot of blue paint. The side hatch, the one facing the neighboring boat, was open to the drizzle.
Three people had business with Willem tonight. One of them came through that hatch.
