In the early hours of October 3, 2016, during Paris fashion week, masked men dressed as police officers entered a discreet luxury residence on rue Tronchet, near the Madeleine. They overpowered the night porter, handcuffed him and forced him to take them to the apartment where Kim Kardashian, then 35, was alone: her bodyguard had gone out with her sisters to a nightclub.
At gunpoint, the star was tied up with plastic cable ties and tape and left in the bathroom. The thieves took a diamond ring valued at around 3.5 million euros and a jewelry box, for an estimated total of about 9 million euros, and fled partly by bicycle. One of the men later said in a book that the bag of jewels got caught in the bicycle wheel during the escape.
